The Rejection Number
Now that we figured out the Coffee Challenge, let's also define a Rejection Number.
That’s so powerful and I deeply love it. The rejection number approach.
Choose a number of rejection you wanna get during a day, a week, a month and then - all you have to do to go and achieve those numbers.
But why picking a rejection number for God’s sake?
We did one Coffee Challenge, but one is not enough. It needs more of them.
First, we get comfortable with Coffees, then with the next idea, and next idea, and next idea. And soon, we will get comfortable asking for whatever we want.
We may not get it, but we get comfortable in asking. And we considerably increase the odds of getting what we ask for.
For sure, we need to learn to ask in the right way, being empathetic, listening and caring for the person to ask.
But if we do not even ask, how will we ever get?
And while I write these lines I painfully become aware of the little I ask for.
I was always on the side of taking care of everyone else, being a people pleaser and forgetting about my own needs.
In those situations where it is a win-win situation, that is working out fine, bug when it turns out to be a win-lose outcome with a win for the other person, which it often did, it turned out to be disadvantegeous to me. Sometimes I realized that directly, sometimes it took me a while to become aware.
But you know what?
What I did not realize in these moments was that asking is a skill, and being uncomfortable and able to endure that nd even turn it into a positive excitement is also a skill that you can train.
It is not necessarily an easy skill to train and it often involves various automatic processes that you first need to de-train and replace with other ones, but I can promise you, it is trainable. I did succeeded with some of them and know the struggles of doing so, but also the rewards when you succeed.
Let’s set the Rejection Number
It’s time to set the rejection number. What will it be for you?
I decided to go with 20 first and then gradually increase it. 20 rejections per day. It may seem many, but I am in New York. I have an endless number of people in front of me and it should bring me into action.
First thing in the morning I will start, do my 20 rejections, and then go on with my day.
Starting tomorrow, on Tuesday will tell you about my results! 😂
My first goal will be 20 people and roughly 3 ideas, but I will add different and more promising ones later too, or replace others.
Dog Sandals for your loved ones ;) - I got the idea out of the many people having dogs here and some wearing dog shoes
Women in SaaS meetup /Brand like a Girl meetup - two events I plan to organize in town soon - for the brand one it may be easier to find people on the streets, but lets see
Manhatran Momentum - Platform for Shop Owners in New York giving discounts to their products in exchange to a community of people getting interested in their products
WIth these 3 ideas,I should be good to go to start. I have some others, but I will focus on them later.
First, it will be -
GETTING STARTED and Getting the Asking Muscle trained!
Whats about you?
What is your rejection number?
What will you pick?
And what questions will you ask?
Let me know in the comments and let’s tackle that challenge together! 🤩
