Last time it was the Freedom Number Challenge, now it is time for the Coffee Challenge.
But what is the Coffee Challenge?
Noah describes it as:
“Go to any coffee shop or anyplace in person. Make a simple purchase and ask for 10% off. Don’t say anything else. The whole point is for you to feel uncomfortable. Commit to doing this today.”
The focus here is on ‘in-person’ and ‘don’t say anything else’. I talked positive words in my head, was smiling and preparing for the challenge and felt quite confident beforehand.
But when I emtered the coffee shop, my uncomfortableness crippled in a bit - really, I shall just ask for that discount? That is simply weird.
But I knew, that as long as I don’t do the challenge I cannot go read on the book.
And so it was time to take action.
I ordered my Chai Latte and then asked in a relaxed voice: “Can I get a 10% discount?” This guy stared at me, mumbled something I did not understand and as I did not I asked him what his answer was?
He asked back: “Are you a teacher?” Which I denied. Then he did not give it to me, but was still puzzled.
After a while of staring, I stopped the discomfort and told them about the book.
They were still a bit puzzled, but when I asked them if they would give a discount, they say - yes, we give discounts to teachers and people working in hospitals. Normally 10%. They told me, that while it is not a rule, a lot of coffee places and book stores, like also Barnes & Nobles give them.
Isn’t that interesting?
First, the moment was not a bit awkward, second, I even learned something new, and third, I can now go on with reading the book! 😀
And now, for the most important question: when will you start asking for the 10% discount?
