Just Fu**ing Start and the Start of Chapter 1
It is time to dive in. Now that I made that contract with myself.and May is approaching soon, I want to gdt all ready and starting early to make these $3000 fast. With that let the journey start.
Chapter one starts with a quote of Buddha - “There are two mistakes one can make along the road to truth… not going all the way, and not starting.”
Well, I already figured out what my biggest fear is - the fear of rejection. It already stresses me out now sitting on my bed in my.room in New York thinking about a soon to be tackled challenge of reaching out to people.and asking them.
I fear they make fun of me. I fear they will say: “ Again? Again another idea? You already had 10, 20, 30. Can’t you please just go back to having a normal job?” or they won’t reply or they lose patiemce with me changing and asking them all the time.
But hey, I committed to it, right? So there is no going back now. And imagine how many weekend challenges I likely will have done by the end of May? 😂
And how many failed ones there will be.
But maybe also how many good ones there were? And how I will be excited when I went through that fear and made my first intentionally earned $3000 in that May month.
With that, let’s dive into it and figure out the next challenge that will come up and what else will we learn along the way.
Tips beforehand
Before we dive into the challenge, Noah shares some invaluable lessons:
He often felt he was not worth it. Even now he sometimes feels like it. What it remibds me of is exactly that. How many people fail as they think you need to have it figured out to get started as then there won’t be any doubt anymore. But that is wrong. Those feelings stay, what is more important is the ability to act despute them.and maybe even being able to leverage them as fuel for exactly those things that will have the biggest imact on our success
It is about a new experiment each, a new learning, living for the rush of possibility and taking it all in, learning, experimenting, starting, sharing, showing, executing. These may be some big and longer experiments or some smaller ones. The important reminder is in all of it to just fu**ing start!
Marketing is easy when you have a great product. And I agree with that statement. I saw it in B2B SaaS. The best sellers are not those that work the hardest, but those that pick the opportunities that lead to the most money - meaning they only and mostly work for companies that have amazing products and are in a high-growth phase ;)
There are 3 key principles for the Million Dollar Weekend process:
The 3 Principles for the MDW process
If you wonder what MDW stand for, well, then I can tell you, it stands for Million Dollar Weekend. 😂
Who did guess it, I guess? ;)
But what are they:
Staying alert to problems as opportunities
Always starting experiments to find solutions
Always asking for the sale
I am sure,we will dive deeper into these 3 principles later on, but here is one more crucial tip he shares.
To be successful as an entrepreneur, I need to stop thinking so much and go get busy:
Starting Small
Starting Fast
Not worrying about what I don’t know
And with that he shares, what he calls:
Taking Leaps
He would become unafraid to start new things and would consistently conduct experiments, personal and professional, small and big, new industries, new hobbies, new technologies, new roles, new peoples, new side hustles.
And with that he learned another lesson:
Focus above all else on being a starter, an experimenter, a learner!
And the lesson and reasons he share are especially worthwile - don’t base your happiness on how smart, successful or rich you are, because there is always someone who is more of that - more rich, more smart, more successful. And this will be a surefire way to fail. Instead, define yourself by the process you make and the things you do each day.
Does that resonate with you?
For me, I often fall back into the trap of making an impression on others.
When I came to new York, I wasn’t sure yet what I wanna do here, but I also applied to jobs and if you do that, people ask you to upgrade your profile according to the roles you apply for. But what if your CV is a potpourri, a mix of a thousand things? Then people soon get confused and tell you you have mediocre, junior profiles with 12+ years professional experience, only because you did not work only for one employment type and one job for 12 years, but did a broad range of things.
I realized that it stresses me if they ask me to update my CV for them to signal my experience and high-leveling. And this affects my ability to just play.
You see this is my blockage, not committing till some hours ago and trying to please too many people without just letting it go and trusting my instinct and broad mix of experiences as a value and not a liability.
And to realize that what the CV is showing is not what I do right now.
Whatis it you are struggling with mostly when going through reasons you have not yet started? And what are the blockers and inner confusions that hold you back from committing to take a leap of faith and build your business?
But now, having done some deep dive on some tips and struggles, it is time for the next Challenge.
The Dollar Challenge
The Challenge is that I have to ask someone I know for a dollar investment in myself and my future business - one measly dollar how he calls it.
Damn! Even that already makes me afraid 🙈🙈
Why should anyone give me a dollar for a business that does not even yet exist.
But he says, I shall tell them, that in exchange to that $1, they get regular updates, insights and a front-row seat to tje updates of that business. And that I can mention the Million Dollar Weekend book.
But why the hell shall I do that?
He says that brings us automatically in that ‘oh-shit starting-and-asking’ experience and shows us that a business is basically nothing else but:
Starting - Asking - Iterating
And then he offers one hell of a good quote:
“Do the thing you fear, and the death of fear is certain.” By Ralph Waldo Emerson
Damn, that is good. I had to read it several times, but love it.
And with that, we will close this article for now. And I will soon be on with the next one, when I have earned my first Dollar. Not sure yet, whom I will ask, but it will for sure be an interesting experience.
Most of my friends are sleeping already, as they are in Germany, while I am in New York, so let’s if I will be able to make that work before tomorrow or whether we have to wait till tomorrow. 😂
Stay tuned and post your own photos below, if you wanna join in on the challenge! 🤩
